Peru collected 570 effective blood units in the 4th International Blood Drive Marathon "Life is in the Blood"

Five cities in Peru participated (in a massive way) during the 4th International Blood Drive Marathon "Life is in the Blood," which was organized by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP), collecting 570 effective units during the month of October 2014, sowing values that help the individual to become a better citizen.

In Lima, Trujillo, Chimbote, Chiclayo and Rioja, the activists for peace and volunteers of the GEAP were actively working along with health institutions in these cities. These events generate significant benefits for blood banks and for people in need of this vital liquid, for different reasons: illness, surgery, women giving birth, among others.

Benefited health institutions extended their appreciation towards the GEAP for promoting and internationally developing these sessions that promote peace, solidarity and love among the human family, since only 0.5% of the Peruvian population donates blood, and of those, only 5% voluntarily donate blood.

The Activists for Peace of Peru to continue creating awareness campaigns on the health benefits associated with donating blood for the donor and recipient; and work on the formation of a culture of voluntary and habitual blood donation, so that each year more units are collected, exceeding the annual target of 600,000 blood units that are required to meet the domestic demand in the country.
