National judicial forum promotes respect for human dignity

As part of the “Justice for Peace” Program, the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) in Mexico held the Judicial Forum “Human Dignity, Presumption of Innocence and Human Rights.”

The activity was carried out with the purpose of strengthening the administration of justice and promoting respect for human dignity.

The forum took place in the facilities of C4 (Control, Command, Communications and Computing) of the city of Fortín de las Flores in the state of Veracruz.

Fundamental rights

Omar Carreón, who was in charge of the regional sub-coordination of the C4, opened the event with words of welcome to the personalities of the judicial area present. (See personalities who attended the Judicial Forum “Human Dignity, Presumption of Innocence and Human Rights” in Veracruz)

On the other hand, Agustín Carpio, on behalf of the Interamerican Bar of Lawyers in Veracruz, began with the cycle of presentations under the subject: “Concept of human dignity and its application in the criminal process.”

Afterwards, Carlos Vázquez, postgraduate director of Law at the University of Xalapa, developed the exhibition: “Reflection and constructive critical thinking about the National Procedural Institutions and their need to adapt them to a minimum standard of respect for the Fundamental Rights recognized in international treaties, block of constitutionality and political constitution.”

“We must use the political constitution to be able to assert a worthy treatment and use a standard of respect for recognized fundamental rights,” said Vázquez.

Justice Administration

For her part, Martha Pérez, regional prosecutor of the Judicial District of Córdoba, presented the conference: “The Humanization of the Administration of Justice.”

Finally, the judge of the seventh court of the Court of Justice of the state of Veracruz, Raúl Pimentel Murrieta, developed the speech “Proposals to put in effect the respect for human dignity and human rights of people deprived of liberty and to solve the prison overcrowding.”

Judge Pimentel said:

“Depriving a human being of his liberty is a reprehensible act, because it is the most important thing and nobody has the right to restrict it.”

The event was attended by more than 100 agents of the region VII preventive state police, students and legal professionals.
