“New Proposals for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” was the theme of the Judicial Forum organized by the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) in Chilpancingo, Guerrero state, Mexico, as a line of action of the Justice for Peace Project, in order to generate constructive critical thinking around national and international criminal policy regarding genocide as a capital crime.

The event brought together distinguished personalities from academic and government fields in the country; the honor table was made up by the M.C. Rene Román, Director of the Academic Law Unit, Dr. Olga Alarcón, President of the Family Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice, M.C. Adgardo Mendoza, Judge of the Judicial Branch of the State of Guerrero and Professor of the Academic Unit of Rights.

Also, the M.C. Ricardo Olivano, Professor of the Colegio Mayor de San Carlos, M.C. Juan Silva, Regional Visitor of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Guerrero, Mr. Mauro Bentancur representing the Director General of the State Center for Social Prevention of Violence and Crime with Citizen Participation and Mr. Francisco Guerra, coordinator of the GEAP in Mexico.

Likewise, representatives of institutions that make life in the state made an appearance in the forum, such as the National Pedagogical University, the Montserrat Institute, the San Carlos High School and the Center for Higher Studies in Guerrero.

Among the thematic axes of the forum were the causes of genocide, the nature and dogmatic characteristics of this crime as a capital crime, as well as the importance of preventive measures against genocidal acts and the establishment of the scope and difficulties of international legal instruments for its prevention and punishment.

The Justice for Peace Project, initiative of the executive president of GEAP, Dr. William Soto Santiago; seeks to promote discussion at judicial, political, academic and social levels on the convenience of revising, updating and amending the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948, as well as the Rome Statute of 1998, and other correlative normativity.

In this sense, the GEAP, through the National and International Forums, within the framework of this project, calls on nations, their judicatures and control bodies, as well as civil society organizations and individuals, to establish the importance of rejection of acts of intolerance, discrimination, ethnic hatred, cultural absorption and political exclusion, which emphasizes that there are frequent presentations in the world, with historical evidence from around 1945 until today, around 250 armed conflicts in the world, with about 120 million dead, most of them victims of their own States.
