El Salvador: Educational workshops help in the prevention of genocides

With the purpose of carrying out reflection and promoting the practice of ethical, moral and spiritual principles, among the student community, the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) in El Salvador, implemented, during the first quarter of the year 2018, held educational workshops of the Program "Educating to Remember - The Holocaust, paradigm of genocide".

The workshops were developed in different school institutions where students and teachers remembered the history through the study of the Holocaust and other genocides like the one in Bosnia, Armenia, Rwanda, the current conflict of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

These activities allowed students to learn about the consequences of intolerance, hatred, discrimination, prejudice, stereotypes, disrespect for life and human dignity.

In the department of San Salvador, in the central area of ​​El Salvador, the San Martín high school, the Mercedes Teacher College, the Hellen Adams Keller School, the National Institute of the Santa Lucia District and the San Pablo School of the city of San Martín participated. 7 workshops were given to 283 students and 15 teachers. 

 

Similarly, in the department of San Miguel, 199 students and 5 teachers were sensitized during 6 workshops that were taught in different institutes:

  • National Institute Francisco Gavidia.

  • National Institute Isidro Menéndez.

  • Swiss Confederation Educational Complex.

  • Metropolitan National Institute.

In each institution the students wrote peace proposals that will be executed in the educational unit to which they belong.
