Activities to stimulate voluntary and altruist blood donation in Villahermosa

Mexico

Solidarity with those who need blood is promoted through drives and awareness talks.

The Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP) as part of the Integral Program: “Life is in the Blood”, on May 2, in Villahermosa, Tabasco, held a blood drive marathon with the participation of the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad Dr. Juan Graham Casasús.

Likewise, as part of the second line of action of the Program, awareness talks were carried out on May 4th, at the Dispositivos de Sellado del Sureste, S. A. de C. V., to raise awareness on the importance of voluntary and regular blood donation.

Blood can’t be manufactured, the only way to obtain it is through people who come to blood banks to donate voluntarily, which, if done routinely, will meet the transfusion needs of medical institutions.

During the drives, such as the one carried out at the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad Dr. Juan Graham Casasús, the GEAP looks for the solidarity of people to come forth to donate. In this case, they obtained 4 effective blood units, with the support of the director of the hospital that has been participating since the Third International Blood Drive Marathon.

In the talk developed at the Dispositivos de Sellados del Sureste company, through testimonies, videos and the projection of a slideshow, they demonstrated the great importance of being a voluntary and altruist donor. Also, myths and facts the people had about the blood donation was cleared up, as well as the benefits that the donor receives.

After the talk, 15 people committed to be donors in the next marathons that will be carried out.
