Carmen Escoto Fernández

Vice President of the Supreme Court of Justice of Costa Rica

Carmen María Escoto Fernández, currently the vice president of the Supreme Court of Justice of Costa Rica. She has served as a magistrate of the First Chamber of Criminal Cassation, she was also president of the Costa Rican Association of Judges and the Superior Court.
 
She studied at Los Angeles City College in 1970, at the National University of Costa Rica and the Escuela Libre de Derecho. Also, at the Autonomous University of Central America. She has a Master's degree in Justice Administration, Socio-Legal Approach, Emphasis in Civil and Commercial Law, awarded by the National University.
 
She took courses on Human Rights, especially Women's Rights, Gender, Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment, at Georgetown University Washington D.C.
 
She is the author of several books on legal matters. He has participated in more than 40 seminars focused on Agrarian and Environmental Law. She served as a professor at the Colegium Académicum and at the Fidélitas University in the Agrarian and Procedural Law Chair.
