438 cities of America declare Planet Earth as a living being

International

Local governments of America support the coalition of the Inter-American Environmental Charter and the Proclamation of the Rights of Mother Earth.

A total of 438 cities from different countries of America issued resolutions, decrees and proclamations recognizing the planet Earth as a living being with rights, in which they assumed the commitment to protect the environment and natural resources, and to promote the environmental proposals of the Global Embassy of Activists for Peace (GEAP).

As part of the volunteer work, peace activists from 14 nations socialized with local governments the environmental principles promoted by the GEAP, with the purpose of informing the political authorities about the institution's proposals.

The mayors, councilors and prefects confirmed the importance of adopting these ethical-legal precepts, to establish links of collaboration between official bodies and civil society, so that they work together for the preservation of Mother Earth, which led to the approval and issuance of resolutions.

The governors who signed the proclamations exhort their peers in all regions to issue the official documents, in order to shape public policies in common to achieve the objectives proposed in support of the care and protection of the environment.

To date, Colombia leads the list of countries with the most resolutions issued by the authorities of cities and governorates, with a total of one hundred and eighty decrees (180), followed by Mexico with sixty (60), Chile with forty-two (42), Paraguay with thirty-seven (37) and Venezuela with thirty-five (35) resolutions. Similarly, the following countries issued proclamations: United States, Guatemala, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Panama and El Salvador.
